The Government’s plan to introduce eyesight checks for drivers over 70 is welcome – but it doesn’t go far enough. Driving instructors and road safety advocates are calling for the rule to apply to all drivers, at every photocard renewal, to ensure everyone on UK roads meets the legal eyesight standard. Poor vision can affect drivers at any age, and regular checks would be a simple, low-cost way to save lives.

The DITC (Driving Instructor and Trainers Collective) have submitted a public petition – which we will share once it has been accepted for publication. We encourage all road users to support it, ensuring every person is safer on the road.
